Applying expertiseIsland has an integrated multi-disciplinary approach using in-house geologists, geophysicists, reservoir engineers and drilling operations team with broad international experience. We have an organically grown track record as a ‘hands on’ operator. Our country managers have detailed knowledge and insight into the hydrocarbon potential of their country based on their previous and present relationships with state agencies. Island also has a commercial and legal team experienced in concluding innovative and creative commercial transactions within tight deadlines. Our method is to use new scientific technology selectively and cost-effectively but be primarily reliant on tried and tested oil-finding skills based on our significant international experience in many different hydrocarbon provinces. Pre-drill use of typographical maps, 2D and 3D projections and other tools assist us to produce an educated assessment about the size, shape and consistency of the oil or natural gas that lies underneath. Project case study: Old Head gas discoveryThere was no pre-drill investment in new 3D or 2D seismic acquisition. New seismic reprocessing technology was used to define the prospect. A comprehensive regional study of reservoirs by our experienced geologist gave new insights into reservoir distribution. This was the first exploration success in Celtic Sea for 16 years with additional new play follow-up potential.
